Lillian Njiru

Managing Trustee, former corporate affairs executive. Accredited in international etiquette, diplomacy and protocol. She runs two businesses to one standard.

Lillian Njiru has spent twenty years in rooms where a small mistake is expensive.

She ran the chief executive's office at Bamburi Cement, part of the Holcim Group, and later led its corporate affairs, community and human rights work. Before that: PwC, IBM, Coca-Cola and Tetra Pak.

She has sat on both sides of the table — the company that gives and the foundation that receives. She now runs the Joe Sang Foundation, which has reached more than 100,000 people in four Kenyan counties and raised over USD 800,000 in a year.

She is accredited in international etiquette and protocol by Luxury Academy in London, and has trained with the UN Global Compact, the International Finance Corporation, McKinsey & Company and the African Development Bank.

Refinement is not something she picked up later. It is how she was raised. That is why she teaches it as a skill, not as something you apply on top.

Two businesses carry her name. Both exist for the same reason. Detail is not decoration, and most people and most companies are one standard away from being taken completely seriously.

Polish is not what you add. It is what is left when you stop trying to impress.
